ECS is one of the coral diseases I haven't had much time to look into yet (and fortunately had not yet to take care of), but if it's truly a bacterial issue an appropriate dip or even antibiotics in a quarantine tank would be the only way to prevent further damage assuming the coral is too weak to deal with the infection itself. Afterward the parameters/environment have/has to change so the coral can recover.

The images make it really difficult to identify what the dark spots actually are, but I'm not aware they are a symptom of ECS. I only know of:
  • Tissue retraction or overall coral deflation
  • Mucus production (thick slime)
  • Tentacle and tissue loss
  • Tentacles are no longer sticky and show no feeding response
  • Open/gaping mouth
Have you checked if the dark spots move or if you can blow them off the tissue with a feeding pipette? Maybe they are parasites of some sort, which might require a different coral dip or overall treatment than bacterial infections.

These might be an interesting read if it really turns out to be ECS:

Thanks for the handy information.

I'll try and get some better photos today- the Elegance is always fully expanded and open, and actually hard to see if the mouth is gaping ad its so chonky and has three mouths (I think) just always producing this white mucus with black spots in it, usually isolated in one or two spots which easily blows away with a turkey baster
