Idiots guide to Coral placement.

Near as I can tell there is no guide for Best coral placement in our tanks. Can some folks please share their experiences on placement?

Ideally it would be nice to have the information on best Par for growth, color and what not to put near it etc..

Luckily they do send a paper with some info. But I’ve been watching tidal gardens videos for each one I’ve got to determine where I want it.

Softies: most anywhere.
LPS: mid to low.
SPS: mid to high.

There are exceptions to the above. Depends on coral health, light intensity and spectrum (PAR,PUR), depth of the tank, rock structures and flow.

Acclimating new corals should be done with dipping with a coral dip, possibly numerous times to remove pests. Placing at the sand bed/bottom of the tank for a few days for observation. Once the coral has shown it's okay, moving upward can be done a little at a time. Once again for observation. Repeat till placed permanently. If stress is observed, paling or first signs of bleaching, remove to a lower location and or reduce your light intensity. All of this is to allow for light and water parameter acclimation.

I think it helps knowing your tanks baseline PAR at different areas. It’s not hard to get PAR levels like it was before with semi economical readers, and some vendors renting them now. Some local clubs assist with this also.

Then you have to research you coral based on others experiences , and at times just place it and give it a little time. If that doesn’t work move it to what you think is better based on good rationale from maybe other reefers (this forum is great for this) or the vendor themselves.

LPS here. My Rhodie and Duncans are doing excellent low and slow...Euphyllia as well, a little higher. Wish I had an idea of PAR for reference. Soon

My euphylia (splatter hammer and 2 heads of indo green tip torch) won't extent. All parameters are fantastic, so I'm guessing flow/light issue. Any ideas?
