Today, knowing all that you know about the hobby, If you could build ANY tank that you want and had a NO limit budget, how big would you go, and where would you start? What dimensions would it be, what equipment would that include and most importantly, what would you stock it with?

For me, I'd like to see minimum 10 feet from end to end I don't know where I'd go from that point. I always love to see the Monster Tank builds but don't think I'd ever want the maintenance that comes with it.

Remember this is a blank check for the build not the upkeep or repairs later down the road.

I would get every bit of equipment I would need to future-proof my tank. Load up on testers and salt, and maybe get a 100-150g tank. Nothing too crazy

8 foot tang gang acropora dominant 240g. I’d probably lean towards a glass cages build. Put in my living room plumbed to garage.
Now just get my wife on board that it could be a budget build
I’ve already blown that cover with how much I’ve spent on the 80 gallon I currently have

I would go for a 6-foot diameter, 2 foot deep shallow cylinder with central overflow and return stack. I'd have alternating return flow that would reverse the direction of the circular flow around the cylinder periodically. I'd also have lighting mounted from the ceiling on a rack that slowly rotates, emulating the movement of the sun in the sky for maximum coverage. The sump would be directly below in the basement, with no exposed wires or plumbing of any kind in the tank room, which would feature the tank as a centerpiece.

I have an office nook that I’ve always thought would make a great built in tank. That dream tank would definitely be happening if I had unlimited money. Maybe one day.

I would ad a room onto the south side of my 2 story house, but extending the roof down so second story would only be 1/2 height sort of thing.

tank would be 120x48x30 - 750G would have 5 solar tubes going thru the ceiling, with a bunch of LED bars to suplement, a large refugium above the tank upstairs and a large sump in the basement with full growout system. or something like that.

I like the way you think. To be honest, I've never considered the solar skylight approach. I may have to do some research into that.

That depends if the budget includes buying a house large enough to hold it and supporting me while I take care of it rather than working.

As it stands I have a 38 AIO which is dictated by available space and the time I have to maintain it more than anything else, I could easily afford a bigger more complex system but I don't have anywhere to put it.

Definitely something to consider. I guess no budget to build would include buying a space with enough space. Basically, If you could build anything you wanted what would it be?

We already have a few of these "dreamers" thread on R2R. In the end, let's face it -- the reality of not just building but maintaining your dream setup costs even more.

I wish that I did have the blank check! I think if I did, I wouldn't tell anyone. A healthy check and a retirement plan yes, but far from blank.

I didn't search for any of the existing threads, but I did put the caveat that the builder had to consider future maintenance and repairs to see how many people might have their dream build already and not think about it. Or if we would think the cost and time after the build was still worth it if that initial cost was not a factor.

There is a tank featured here on R2R somewhere. Been set up like 15+ years. Mostly lit by solar tubes. Tank is epic.

I would have to buy a new home and maybe get a new wife or no wife then I can answer

That blank check may buy his house, but you’ll need more blank checks every few months just to pay for maintenance and taxes!

Oh, I wouldn’t change a thing. I like my smaller tanks and they suit my lifestyle and circumstances. I need a blank check to fix up my house, lol!
