Just a fun question. I ordered a new tank, and im trying to get every "shoulda/coulda" from last time taken care of. If you were setting up a new tank, what would you do differently? What would you do before you ever put a drop of water in that you didnt do last time? What would you take into consideration that you previously overlooked?

Thats my next rabbit hole to dive into. I want a controller board, and I want it super clean. My current setup a nightmare

Depends on size but planning plumbing. Top off, closed loops etc... a basic water change in 400 gal tank is not easy.

I'd exclude the Neon Dottyback (Pseudochromis aldabranisis) and the Hippo Tang from the stock list. Both of mine are jerks. Huge jerks.

Yea, i'm planning a mixing station downstairs, my reeflo Hammerhead will be a oversized waterchange pump so I never have to lift another bucket for a simple in and out water change. Only if im pulling things that need a bucket.

Im hoping to have all my rock cooking in the sump(or a barrel attached to my sump) for around 4-6 months before it goes into the tank, then i'll pull most of my rock from my current tank as well! I do NOT want any more of an ugly phase than i need to. By that point my rock in my tank will be around 3 years established.. considering ordering some TBS sand as well but im not 100% sure yet. Will be bringing over a lot of corals so semi worried about hitch hikers(of the bugs and worms variety)

Honestly the dottyback is way worse. Do not recommend it. I cannot have anything that has a similar torpedo shape in the tank or it will terrorize it to death.

I had twin 100 gal tanks in my back room to take RODI to Salt plus a 50 gal RODI top off. I'm planning another 300 gal build but I'm not sure why???

I’m doing this very soon with the 75 gallon sps tank upgrade. The rock (coral) will have to be broken up and removed, the water drained, then move the tank over and add it all back in. Then put the new tank in it’s place. Run both tanks for a week to seed the new one, then transfer everything over. At least that’s the plan in my head. Lot’s of coral are getting broken up, but it’s a fresh start.

I have heard that before. Luckily when I tried to buy one, the one time before I found out they were mean, the LFS couldn't catch it without selling me a cantaloupe sized rock so I decided against it haha

Yea i have a 55g food grade plastic barrel that was filled with vinegar, and 3 32g brute trashcans currently. 2 for kalk and one for saltwater. The 55 is for RODI. Eventually i'll either buy a second or i'll buy some nice large tanks. Idk yet

That’s how I use to have mine. Just set up a new tank and said that’s not happening again. Have a panel on side of stand for controllers and then wire holders for everything. But cleaner and safer and will do this every time now on
