If you were starting over..

Australian.. Australian live rock? I had not heard of this!
Supposed to be premium rock, with all the shapes we used to get out of the south pacific islands when collection of wild rock was common.
I guess it runs $25+ per lb.

I would have ordered a sump with room for a fleece roller. Totally bummed to be stuck with filter socks.
I had socks, bought a roller, went back to socks. I liked the idea of a fleece roller and it did work, but "sock maintenance" is easier, and the headache of another piece of gear, app, etc, isn't worth it IMO.

I hear you. Will keep this on mind when I’m rinsing those socks!

I live in SW FL and have had to start over half a dozen times due to power outages from tropical storms. Every reef tank has an expiration date and it's not plainly displayed on a sticker like a box of eggs. I suspect by the time we get good at it we will be to old to do it.
My husband and I have a condo in Cape Coral. Since it is a condo there is no way to use a generator. I understand your problem with power outages since we have experienced many days without power. For now my tank will be in NJ until my husband forces me to sell the house here.

Oof. I'm sure its awesome but jeesh, my rock would cost as much as my tank 😂

Mine worked too well and tanked my nutrients. Protein skimmer alone keeps my tank dialed right now

You said What if?
So after seeing a huge hole in the live rock department over the last few years ( compared to what we once had).
I would really want to see what would arrive.

Oh im not bashing, I wouldnt judge anyone who actually bought it, I just couldn't do it 😅 obviously getting expeditiously flown overseas is going to make it expensive, and out of my price range 😅 that said, I'm sure its awesome and if I could afford it I would absolutely! I do have to say, i'm not super happy with the rock options. Its cool pukani is making a comeback, but besides that its just super heavy, super dense mined rock that is very meh at best

Label outlets, plumbing uv sterilizer so it’s easy to service

basically just setting up plumbing, cable management, and equipment so that everything is EASY TO SERVICE.
This is a high priority for me this go around. I know we'll enough, if it isnt convenient, I just wont do it. So this time, everything's going to be super easy if I can help it.

I agree. I try to buy up the good stuff when I find it. I’d rather have too much and not use it than have limited options. I started my most recent tank with some nice dry Fiji rock from a retired reefer and the shapes, texture, and porosity are unmatched by the mined or produced stuff

I sort of am starting over with a new system, and the three things I'm doing differently are:

-Getting a deeper tank (60x30x20)

-Largest sump possible instead of something off the shelf

-Going slower since my current system will be up and running while the new system matures a bit, I've been in four houses in the past two years and each move has caused different losses,
