IM 150 EXT Shallow Lagoon

I finally chopped most of the red mushrooms off the old rock and moved it into this tank. Two weeks later some new ones popped up so yay.

At least I was able to break down the old tank completely and have a friend come and grab the tank/stand.

Here’s the tank as it stand today.

I moved some acros over from the frag tank and added some new ones from the reef conservation swap a couple of weeks ago.
I have a battle box coming early next week for some more acros.

I also added another panel to the side so I could mount two DOS pumps and hopefully a trident once I print the bracket

I mapped the par yesterday and I think im getting some good spread. I was a bit worried about the sides not getting enough.

I found out that my yellow tang had ick a couple of weeks ago. Before I could treat the fish my kole tang succumbed to something. So I had to catch all the fish and move them to a QT tank. Im going to let the tank run fishless for a few weeks to try and beat it in the main tank.

I had to build a fish trap to catch the the yellow tang. All in all it worked pretty good for the 15 bucks I spent getting it together.

It only took one night to catch him and sadly was only a one beer job. But all the fish are in the QT tank now and I have some copper running though it. This is a new one for me as I never had ick before.

I have also been battling some algae. Mostly it's on the new rock. There is a turf algae, some GHA, and a ulva like algae that is the worst. I added a few urchins to help.

I finally got rid of the ulva like algae that was taking over my rocks a couple months ago. I have had some cyano pop up in a few spots but that’s working its way out now.

The fish were in qt for an almost two months and were reintroduced back into the tank. No ick has came up again so I’m in the clear. I did add a lavender tang and white tail Kole tang to another qt tank while the first were in qt. I introduced them all at the same time.

Enough blah blah here’s some pics

Awesome tank!
Wish I had room.
*I'm more of a novice/casual reefer but have my eye on the IM 100 EXT for when I finally upgrade (from 40 gallons)

I have also been working on an app to pull parameters off my apex’s so I can see them at a glance. It has been working pretty good when I’m at home

I started some phyto cultures figured it would be a good science experiment for the kids on this long summer break.

I started with Tetraselmis and Tisochrysis. so far so good with the cultures. Should be ready to harvest on Thursday.

Yes any updates?

This tank has been struggling a bit since my last update.

tempImage4TdKf1.jpg

Dinos decided to move in and I thought I beat them back but they came back. I have been fighting them for a little bit now. The size difference between photo and Dinos is a lot bigger than I thought. (Dinos big circles, photo little ones)

I have made adjustments to the tank to fight Prorocentrum Dinos. I added some new line rock from TBS, feed more, tried a sand bed UV sweeper, and plumbed in a bigger UV through the sump.

The TBS rock came with a nice bucket, I order 15 pound but got around 17-18 lbs. Shape wise not too exciting but it came with lots of live, it had sponges, coral, and algae on it.

It also came with a mantis though..

I was able re-home her along with some frags from my frag tank at the Reef Conservation society frag swap earlier this month. The frag tank is a separate system and has been humming along nicely.

Then finally an updated tank shot and a pic of the Dinos on the sand. Some corals haven't really minded the Dinos but others decided it was time to turn to a ghost.

I think the tank is finally on the right track. My sand bed is looking clean and only trace amounts of Dino’s on some rocks and frag rack.

Fishmas came early this year. I got an order in from battlecorals and won an apex from the mason Dixon frag swap early last month

We are still humming along over here. The tank is doing pretty good and I have made some changes over the last few months. Added some corals, lost some corals, added some fish lost some fish.

Im most excited about adding a pyramid butterfly fish to hopefully eat Xenia. My Xenia has started to spread a bit to easy.
NewFIsh.jpg

I updated my scape with some new rock in the back right corner, it was always a bit too low for me and was getting overrun with Xenia and an orange Monti cap so I came up with this tower

I also got a new toy. Ive been tinkering in fusion designing odds and ends. My most recent design was a dos mount for the APS stand. I was running out of room on the equipment boards so up the dos went.

NewToy.jpg

I'll move the dos onto the back rails soon. Im planning on using this one for AWC again. Now I'll be up to three doses, one for AWC, one for Kalk, and one for 2part.
