It appears I have an imposter red leg hermit. He is living inside of a snail shell. I found an empty hermit crab shell and thought one of the crabs might have died but nope he either murdered a snail for its home or the snail died and crab got a free meal and home. Do hermits usually attack snails? If so I’d rather have snails than crabs so would probably remove them and leave my snails. Also will the crab growing into the bigger shell cause any issues?

Hermit crabs will murder anyone in a shell they think suits them better than what they are currently in. You need to keep an assortment of bigger empty shells in the tank if you have hermits. Usually through time enough snails randomly die off to give them a decent selection, but they can and will kill for them.
