180g total volume with 15# live rock, 15# live sand (TBS), 100# Marco Rock, 100# Arag-Alive, 40# aragonite sand. Also 5 teeny hermit crabs and plant/coral life on the live rock. Alkalinity is 6.5 and want to get up to 8.5 - 9 dkh.

Planning on increasing it with soda ash (baked baking soda). How slow do i need to go?

That seems a reasonable plan to me. Might need to add more if demand keeps taking a fair part of that.

I'd consider trying a salt mix that mixes to your desired alkalinity, then you just need to maintain it.

I hope that helps and good luck!

That's what I thought I did. Fritz RPM Blue Box. Used the whole box so it isn't a settling of components issue. (Well, I could test the last 10+/- g still in the Brute but...)

Supposed to mix at 8-8.5. New tank so unless the sand or rock sucked up the carbonate (or whatever component does dkh) then it doesn't do what it claims. I saw another post that was 6 or 6.5 with Fritz.
