I have a chunky acro frag that has an injury in the middle of it. The arms look good. Not sure how to handle it or if there is anythig to do to help it recover. Pic attached. The middle injury area is coated in brownish diatoms since the tank is pretty new and has some diatoms hanging around.

I wouldn’t call it an injury..

Did a fish or you accidentally break off the middle?

It should recover from a white skeleton under proper conditions.

I would say you are lacking flow if you are getting algae there

It broke off during shipping. I agree about the flow. Crazy coraline growth in the new tank, which is positive, but it is probably slowing my gyres down. Should clean them.

For now I would scrub it clean.

If the patch doesn’t grow and kill more tissue, you may have to just live with it, all big colonies eventually develop dead spots.

If it spreads, i would trim and frag

What about a couple drops of Lugols on the spot?

Lugols is primarily for preventing infections.

SPS rarely if ever get infections, and lugols wont really help with tissue necrosis ime.

And like @BristleWormHater mentioned, straight up iodine will kill stuff.

Just clean up and see what happens
