Inkbird controler setup

My only experience with them is from the one I have ITC-306A, but I know it at least has that error. I have no idea which other ones do though. Apparently there are several differences between the models because someone else said they set a temp and then a variance of 1 degree so that it stays within a degree above or below. On mine I set the specific temp that I want it to turn on and then the temp that I want it to go off, I just have to make sure there is at least a .5 degrees difference.

Are any of yours wifi, I'm wondering if that is the difference?

My guess is that is what makes the difference to which set of "features" the controller has. It's easier to add user configurable options (setting both high and low points, continuous heating time limit, etc) since it can easily be changed in the phone app for the controller

Heaters themselves are set to 82F and act as the failsafe. Normally the InkBird turns power On/Off to the heater(s).
Target Temp for my setup is 78F, with 77.7 as Low and 78.2 as High.

Are you sure that it's the outlets that aren't energized and not the thermostat in the heater (assuming your heaters have them...most do) keeping it from kicking on? You could try plugging something else into the Inkbird outlet to test it.

Yes, good question to the OP. Your heater(s) must be set to a temp at least as high as your High/Off temp for the InkBird. Otherwise the heater itself shuts off prematurely and the InkBird stays on until eventually the Continuous Heating Time alarm wakes you up in the middle of the night. (Don't ask!)

Try plugging in a light or fan etc, something visible to the inkbird, test that its turning things on/off according to the temp settings. Very visible that way, otherwise its a heater issue, I have 5 heaters from the same brand, only 1 that's over a year old, and none match temps

My tank is staying between 78.8 - 79.7

It is summer currently here but have my t1 set to 77f and t2 set to 77.7
Might do adjustments in winter

And my heaters are set with the internal thermostat 1 degree higher then t2 78.8


And my chiller turns on at 79.7 and off at 78.8

Set the temp 1 for the temp you want the heater to turn on at (probably 77) and then set temp 2 for when you want the heater to turn off (77.5). This will cause your temp to vary from 77-77.5.
Make sure your thermostats on the heaters are something above 77.5. I'd probably go up to 79, since it will only get to that temp if the controller fails.

Depending on which model you have I dont think they all allow a difference of only half a degree, so you may have to have a 1 degree range.

If you want to use the thermostats on your heaters, set a scene to reset the Inkbird for 1 minute a day. This resets the "continuous on" timer on the Inkbird.

This can be done inside the actual Inkbird smart app or with any smart plug/ strip. My Inkbird fluctuates more than my heater by itself so this is what I did. Mine shuts off at midnight and comes right back on.

If you are talking about the thermostat set temp on the heaters themselves they need to both be set above your T2. Otherwise one heater will turn off before your upper temperature is reached.

That will work, but why not just set both of them to 79. The only time the temp would ever get that high is if the controller fails.

Some of the models have less of a variance if you change to Celsius, than it’s only 0.3c.
