So i had this tank up and running for 3 years roughly everything was awesome. Had to break it down because life just got in the way. I just recently got settled in a new place and plan to be there for the next 3-5 years so i broke the tank back out of storage and got it all set up

equipment:
Nuvo38
InTank media basket with filter floss and chemi pure elite
Tunze auto top off
Tunze 9004 skimmer( not currently running since its freshly set up)
Radion xr15 pro gen 3
MP10WQD
Cobalt heater

tank has cycled i went with dry rock this build that already has the purple color to it at first i thought it was a good idea now i am second guessing that decision lol i am sure coraline will eventually grow over it. i went this route because live rock was crazy expensive with that Indonesian ban. Only time will tell. The positive of this rock tho is that it is super easy to move and stake and change up the rock work without needed to drill and glue everything down so i do love that aspect of it.

Livestock:
1-frostbite clown
1-Standard everyday clown
4- Snails
8-Hermits
1-Sand conch

corals:
1 small chunk of gsp (the kid wanted it lol)
1 superman ricordia mushroom
1-small zoa frag

here are a couple pics excuse some micro bubbles i have a small leak on my return pump i plan on swapping to a sicce 3.0 pump during my next water change. i learned previously that sometimes its best to just wait and plan out these changes rather then constantly having my hands in the tank

Any suggestions for changing the rock work feel free to let me know i haven't settled on what i have yet my biggest problem with the hobby is i can never make up my mind lol

I’m no expert but I have been told basically to split the tank in half and put rock in each half in a ratio of 5:2.

There is another thing people called the rule of three. That you split the tank into 9 sections and make sure there is empty space in three of them.

yea i originally had less in there. i may pull a piece out at the next water change and try to get some open area in the middle. most of it is in the back part of the tank so the front is wide open and from the top its like a U shape. i also know in the past the more rock with bacteria growing on it seemed to help keep my issues down this was one reason i put a couple extra pieces in.

does your mp10 stir up sand / move it at all? I have an IM 30L and my jebao (on the lowest setting) will move a big corner around. trying to figure out where to put it so that doesn't happen but to no success.

No it doesn’t where I have it set up high if I lower it any it will move the sand around tho. If I lower it I have to run it at 40-50% I’m thinking of getting another MP10 for the other side blowing behind the rock work and then lowering the pump I have now I guess it will be a trial and error thing till you find the sweet spot

What are your final stocking plans?

Not too sure at the moment most likely a goby shrimp pair and a royal gramma will be all I add then corals of course tryin to keep the fish somewhat on the lighter side hoping this will keep maintenance a little easier in the long run

It's always best to stock lightly for sure. I have the same tank that I am about to set up so I was just curious about your plans. Mine is going to be bare bottom so I don't think a goby would be the best choice.

Do you think you could show me a picture of your filtration compartment? I am still in the planning phase. I am thinking of buying an intank media basket too or converting one of the stock socks to hold filter floss.

I will be following along.

yes i will post a pic tonight if i get the chance im having a issue tho think my front glass maybe cracking i noticed a spot on the bottom left just above my sand bed last night its smooth on the inside but i can feel it on the outside not sure if its just a imperfection in the glass or a crack starting to form i am in the process of trying to track down a new tank maybe a 30 long or 40 if it will fit on my same stand so we will see in the next few days. this could of been there for the past 3 years when i has it set up previously and i just never noticed at least that is what i am hoping lol otherwise i could have a costly mess on my hands

That is my fear. These tanks have been known to crack.

The Nuvo 40 is about .6 inches wider if that will fit on your stand.

Are you using and auto leveling mat?

Makes me nervous about my new build. The last owner had it running for 5 years but cant have it bursting in my new house.

I do not have the mat when I bought it it wasn’t a option. I have it perfectly level I marked both ends with a sharpie and I’ll monitor it. It’s possibly it’s been there since day 1 and I never noticed my sand bed may have been covering it before

Well I'll be following along. Let me know if you find a different tank that fits the stand or whatever you decide.

LFS has a few new nuvo38 tanks left over in his warehouse . Trying to weigh my options on picking the same tank up since i know it fits my stand and all my equipment will go right in or my other option is the nuvo40 need to see if its gonna fit my stand or if i can get a new stand built fast. the innovative stands are pricey for what they are i should know my plans by tonight i am not gonna take a chance with the current tank not worth the risk. I wanna get the 40 the curved corners are kind of a pain in the butt for cleaning and it obstructs the views from certain angles. But if he makes me a killer deal on it then i may just stick with the 38

I have been looking at the 40 as well. It is really expensive with the stand though, like 1k or something.

Ill be following along and I hope you get it figured out.

Picking up the 40 Friday after work. I am going to modify my stand now just need to make a new top thats 1" deeper and ill be good to go so stopping at the hardware store tonight luckily i have a family member who renovates houses and has all the tools i need to build a new top for it and make it look nice. My LFS is selling me the tank for $325 he had some of the Nuvo38's left but he wants $450 for them so i went the cheaper route wasn't expecting this issue and trying to save as much money as possible. Also i loved the rounded corners at first but they truly are a pain in the butt to clean have to put hands in the tank a lot to keep them nice with the 40 ill be able to use my magnet and get 95% of the glass without having my entire arm inside the tank.

Good to know. Please document your stand mod as I might upgrade to a Nuvo 40 as well once I have some extra cash.

Well given the short time frame I had this is what I came up with wish I woulda had time to build a complete stand but this will get the job done. This will sit over the top of the existing top of the nuvo38 stand I added a trim piece around it to hide the original top so this will look like it was factory I will upload pics on sat through my swapping process. This top is 25x21 I will have roughly 1 inch of overhang around the entire tank not ideal but only way I could get it to sit over the original top 181681A2-C5EA-40DB-8C53-6646DBAD267C.jpeg C1EA5171-85A7-482D-BEA5-5E039DA4E745.jpeg 1FA0E42D-69C8-40C4-B487-38A8B080A933.jpeg 2F03CE8F-585F-4DE2-9C99-13EF9A0B4292.jpeg 7B76EE45-FB3E-4142-A580-095B6B11F697.jpeg

Well swapped it out started this morning at 9 just finished the last step by re adding the fish once the tank cleared up was a bit cloudy from swapping everything over everything worked out great so far the few corals I have already started opening up and fish seem happy fed them after putting them in the tank and they both ate I was trying to get this done so didn’t take many pics. Was unable to get my scape back to how it was I didn’t wanna spend hours messing with it right now so I just put something together figured in a few weeks once everything has a chance to settle in I can move my scape as needed with that said I don’t mind how it turned out just 1 spot has some shading
