Hi All,
So I am planning a tank build and I would like to add extra water volume to the system and create an easy water change scenario.
Long ago I saw a thread of a system where they had several vertical water storage tanks plumbed in-line in their basement. They were able to shut a valve off and perform a water change from a single tank. I am unable to locate that thread now.
So I am thinking my return pump will be on a manifold and provide water to a single vertical storage tank through the top and PVC goes to the bottom of the tank inside if possible. Or should I use a pump to circulate the water inside?
A bulk head on the bottom for a drain and a uniseal at the top side of the tank to return water to the sump as the tank overflows.
My goal is to be able to have the extra water volume and then close a valve to isolate it. Then drain the old salt water out, refill with RO water and mix new saltwater. Then open the valve back up so that it is part of the system again.
Does anyone have any thoughts/advice?
Or can point me to some threads that would help me with this?
Thanks in advance!

I’m doing the same thing with a 29g , but I’ve seen them done with 40b and 55’s.

Essentially, my DT drains into the 29, which has a 1” bulkhead down low valved to a drain, and 2x 1.5 inch bulkheads about 4 inches below the rim that overflow into my 125 sump slimmer chamber.

I also have a 1 inch Lund from my water change station pump feeding over the top into the 29.

To change, I stop the system, open the bottom valve until it drains, close it, then add water until it just hits the upper bulkheads. 15% change in 10 mins.

It’s the tank on the left of the schematic but it doesn’t show all the plumbing

Addition of a couple T’s, two more valves and 2 pipes straight to skimmer section, (bypassing the WC tank) I could change water without even turning the system off, but I just haven’t plumbed it yet.
