installing existing iPOD on new computer

so how do i do this without wiping out the songs on my iPOD?

and in the process, transfer all of my play lists and music to my new computer?

You should be able to do that just by pluging the iPOD into the computer.

well, last time i was trying to help someone put their iPOD on a new computer, they downloaded the iTunes program, plugged it in, and iTunes wanted to format the iPOD and erase all the music so it would match the playlists on iTunes (which had nothing).

i don't remember how we fixed this issue though.

you can browse your ipod by clicking on it in the "my computer". then just copy all the music over to your computer. Then you can format it without losing anything.

so, my iPOD contains some music in mp3 format that was NOT downloaded from iTunes. it was either ripped from a CD or gotten by other means.

if i select to copy things, will it take everything and my playlists? or will it only transfer the Itunes purchased music?

When that pops up click on cancel then click on manually manage music. Then you can drag and drop songs on to the iPod.

Just go to where yout iTunes folder is, and copy and paste the whole thing to the new puter

not everyone is connected to the same network nor do they have a thumbdrive. HOWEVER you can use the ipod as a hard drive. Which means you can copy the itunes folder onto your ipod and then put that folder on the new computer from the ipod :D.
