I have *the* Xenia problem. It's spread to a portion of my tank and I want to get rid of it once and for all. Unfortunately the rock it's on is the absolute base of my 'scape so removing it is 100% not an option. I've been manually removing it for over a year now but it always comes back after a few months. After my most recent afternoon of reclaiming a few square feet of tank from this invasive pest I had the idea that I might be able to cover the area that it wants to grow with something equivalent to blackout fabric for a few months to hopefully starve it out once and for all. But I'm struggling to come up with something that is both reef safe and heavy enough to stay in place.
My initial thought was using something like sheets of mosaic tile but I doubt the glue is reef safe and I have some concerns about whatever the backing material is. Has anybody tried something like this and found a solution that worked well?
