I’m purchasing a new tank (IM 50x36x20) and trying to decide on an internal versus external return configuration. Wondering if there are any pros or cons to either setup. Any advice is appreciated. Thx!

External gives more room in tank, but the box will stick out the back.

Howdy and welcome

With an internal overflow, the pipes to the pump would go through the stand to get to the sump, right?

This ^. External is easier to aquascape but you just need to make sure you have clearance behind the tank, usually just a couple inches

I was considering the Nuvo INT 100 recently (before deciding to go in a different direction with my setup) ... and my big concern wasnot only the narrowness of the overflow chamber toward the sides, but also the depth...

If a small fish should happen to make into the overflow, it could be quite the challenge to get it out.

Good point. Thanks!
