I'm planning to use a sheet of ABS to create an internal overflow baffle so I can bottom drill my lowboy. I was planning to thermomold the ABS. Anyone have experience doing this for an overflow?

I have bent acrylic before by using a heat gun and clamping it between 2x4. Was planning to do similar with the ABS.

This may be relevant and it may not, so don’t beat me up lol.

I have molded abs for intake ducts for intercoolers and brake cooling ducts. It can be done with a heat gun, but I use a propane torch with some distance between the torch and the abs. I do not see why it would not work, useless abs is not reef safe or if the lights would degrade it. I honestly do not know that.

@Randy Holmes-Farley would know the answer if abs is a feasible material to use.

Thanks for your input.

I have a sheet of ABS I'm planning to use, but have not gotten to the work yet. I'm pretty sure ABS is what all most "stock" overflows are made out of when you buy a reef ready tank. The sheet I got even has the same textures, smooth on one side and bumpy on the other.

I did end up building this overflow out of ABS. You can find details in my build thread: https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/lowboy-frag-tank-addition-to-shakys-reef.751922/post-8545011
