Hello all!!

I have been in the hobby for a several years on and off. I am located in the Greenville, SC area and would love to meet other people local to the upstate. I have always had a dream of a beautiful mixed reef, but for whatever reason I end up with a FOWLR. I seem to have issues getting the corals to take off. My current setup is a 180 dual overflow, 40 gallon acrylic sump, 15 gallon column display refugium/seahorse tank, Kessil 360's (x3), RODI ato, DIY stand, MP-40 (x2), Ecotech M1 return pump, eshopps skimmer, Naso tang, yellow tang, sailfin tang, white spot puffer, diamond goby, maroon clown, purple firefish, rose anemone, single head hammer frag, small acan frag. I always get my water checked at my LFS and it is always within the specified ranges for a reef tank. I would like to get some input from other local reefers on how to get my tank to thrive and tell me what I am doing wrong to get the corals to grow.

Welcome to R2R!
Best advice I can give is to purchase your own test kits to do at home. Salifert and Red Sea in my opinion are two of the best. Calcium, Alkalinity, Magnesium, Ammonia, Nitrate, and a refractometer to check your salinity. Also temperature can play a big role as well, what do you keep your tank at?

My tank temperature is at 77 and all my parameters are always good every week. I do not have any temperature swings as I have looked into that as well as stray voltage. I think the biggest thing is understanding my equipment and best settings for everything. I have higher end equipment this time around and I think it is smarter than me ha ha.

Welcome to the thread and good luck on your adventure. One of the many things that we hear that make it very difficult to help people is "within spec" or "within ranges." Next time they test, write down the numbers and let us know so we can help you out. I recommend getting your own test kit (personally i use 4 different brand names including API and have for yrs) so you can spot check and track better. This will help with real questions, such as what type of corals and etc. What salinity level are you running at? What are your goals with corals? hard, soft, polyps only, a mushroom tank, etc?

This information is the foundation for perimeters and guidance for the path forward.

Welcome to R2R. You have a nice looking setup. I would agree in having your own test kits until you take that plunge write down your results from your LFS and what test kits they use so folks can have a clear picture of where your at. Your in the right place for info and help to get your tank were you want it to be :)

So water parameters are:
Salt 1.024
Alk 8
Cal 400
Temp 77
PH 8.3
Mag 1200
Nitrate/Nitrite/phosphates/Ammonia=0

The sea horse portion is a work in progress as there are no horses yet. Want to get Macroalgae going first and then add seahorses. Also want to make sure water is stable too after macro before adding horses.
