Iphone question

I recently noticed that all my music has a symbol of a cloud next to it and when I play a song there is a delay, like it is downloading it. Does that cloud mean it is being stored in Apple's cloud? Is it just a generic cloud? I've never signed up for their cloud service so was wondering if they just do it for you automatically.

Yup that exactly what it means. You can change music and photos from being automatically saved to the cloud under "settings" then choose "cloud" things being saved will be shown. Just turn music off.
Apple give like 5gigs of free cloud storage. I think it's 5. I pay ¢99 for 50 because I don't want all my pics taking up so much room on my phones storage.

That's part of Apple Music. The cloud just shows you that the track will be streaming not on your iPhone. I use the streaming a lot as I have the original iPhone plan with unlimited at a fixed price. I only download if I am wanting to play music for more that 2 hours continuously
As the stream will stop after two hours. I found this out as my wife likes music to play at night and she would wake me up to till me that the music had stopped.

I just checked and everything was turned off. I didn't see anything for music though. Do you have to be signed in to icloud for it to work? I've never setup an account. It is always asking me to sign in and I always cancel it.
