Is 2 Vortech MP40W ES overkill?

For a 48x20x20 SPS tank, is that too much? or should i go for 2 MP20W?

MP40WES dialed back a little.
MP20W will have to run close to full speed and will be a little noisy.

I agree with Demonic, I have a 120g with a MP40, and a MP 20 and it isn't enough, I had to add a few Koralia 1050's.

go with the 2 40's and dial them down. then as the sps grows and fills out you will need more flow and have plenty of room to turn the 40's up to take care of it

When i had my 90 i ran 3 mp40w and 3 tunze nano's now in my 150 i add a 4th vortech mp40 to the mix

Fwiw your not gonna find any mp20s they quit making them along time ago... 2 mp40's on full blast would be perfect for that IMHO..... Do it haha!!!!

I run 3 40's on my 120 sps tank. I would go with 2 and adjust as needed.

Sorry to hijack, but I was wanted this question answered myself...except I have a 125g...I am running koralia mag 6's...and that is just too much laminar flow.

Would two mp40's do the trick (72" long 125g)?
