I have a 32g that is running a filter pad (carbon), a bag of red sea carbon and a thick sponge on the bottom of the basket. Below that basket I wanted to put a mini refugium but is it even worth it since it would set me back around $100? I plan on having 6 fish if that helps..

100% worth it! You have a small tank, a Refug will benefit you more than a skimmer. Especially with 6 fish.

I am running a Biocube 32 with a Refug and two fish. My nitrates are almost always at 0.

Growing algae in a fuge will clean the water and give pods a safe haven. But one of the best aspects imo is that you are creating a perfect area for algae growth and (for me at least) nuisance algae will grow back there instead of in your tank
