Is gorilla glue reef safe?

I’m doing some aquascaping and glued some rocks with gel gorilla glue and the normal version. Is it safe and how long should I wait before adding it to my aquarium?

Yes, absolutely I’ve used it before. Just make sure it’s the green cap bottles.

I have used Gorilla gel underwater and sometimes the fish picked at it but so far no damages. When I put rocks together I have let it dry for 24 hours because I was using a lot of glue at the same time, and wanted it to dry completely before I added water.

With frags, I glue and drop in the tank, no issues other than sticking my fingers together and getting it on my clothes. It does not come out in the wash.

Super safe. The best, imo.

Probably a bit late but, you can put it in the tank right out of the bottle to no ill effect.

Also make sure to shake it first.. Went to go get a bottle today because I was moving some frags around and this is the first time it happened to me but it came out as straight liquid and floated around on the surface of my aquarium. Looked like oil in water. Easy enough to pull out with my hands but made a huge mess trying to get it out before any fish got to it.

I think I used polyurethane glue on accident, it has had 24hours to cure. I’m I safe or do I need to take it apart and restart?

Any poly glue is not aquarium safe

Cyanoacrylate Gorilla glue, right?

Not like any of the other Gorilla Glues

I’m glad it’s not just me….. one day I’ll successfully glue something for my tank and not get it on my fingers or something not supposed to have glue on it….. someday.

Any poly glue is not aquarium safe

"poly" glue is a broad subject... Typically single or plural component.

Single component is an isocyanate that reacts with air (actually the moisture in the air) to "cure" or "polymerize"

Plural component is a mix of isocyanate and polyol. The polyol is what causes the reaction to "cure" and create a polymer.

In general, both are inert (reef safe) once cured as long as it does not a formulation with metal powder, anti-fungal components, etc.

The SDS does not say anything about harm to aquatic life (assuming this is the correct SDS).

edit: Don't rely on google searches for the correct literature. I went directly to gorilla glue website and found the correct and up to date SDS. Now attached

I've only ever used cyanoacrylate adhesives though

Don't even try. It'll always happen lol. Acetone works well in getting it off (nail polish remover). Just be aware that Acetone is carcinogenic. LOL, in Chem lab back in the 80s we used to wash our hands with the stuff. But hey! I'm alive! And I only got cancer once!

It depends on how thick you gooped it in there. It can self encapsulate, which is not good. Water will force it to foam (cure). So you can dip it in the sink and if you think there are any pockets uncured, lance them with something to allow them to ooze and cure.

In general, even acetone is rather useless when it comes to isocyanate based "glues". It is a "peel it off, along with the hair and skin" kind of thing. I have pumped millions of pounds of both plural and single component products... so much so that I am sensitized (allergic) to uncured poly.

Didn't know that. When I've used it, it worked like a champ. Thanks for the info man. Guess I'll use gloves when it's my time to aquascape.

I didn’t apply a lot, no major pockets. So I should be good right?
