Just got a whitetail bristle tooth tang about a week or so ago and he’s been in an observation only qt tank. Today I noticed 1 white dot on his fin, which has been very hard to get a pic of, and was looking to see if anyone has opinions on what it might be. I’m hoping not ich but i know tangs are prone to it.

Sorry it’s blurry, it’s very hard to get a pic.

Try a video which may be clearer, If its one dot, may be a grain of sand. Ich will increase in number daily in number and location. Revisit again tomorrow and see if this is the case

I’ve been trying to get a better video/pic for three days but just can’t…. He’s so quick and the lights in the qt room cause bad reflections.

The spot is still there but doesn’t appear any worse so far.

Been treating the tank with paraguard daily

not sure paraguard is helping

Ok…. I think i got a video where you can kind of see it better… and it does appear to be getting slightly worse.

I took the one rock and little sand out of the tank tonight preparing for copper power if needed tomorrow.

Is this video good enough to be able to identify what it might be?

Thank you all!

It’s on the fish right side so you can see it when he turns

Here is an even better video…

I started copper power yesterday and gradually bringing up the concentration

Thanks for the response! I added a video if you get the time to check it out.

Thank you!

Once again, Do Not ramp up and get to 2.25ppm tight away. The video is very short and lighting needs to be brighter to see/identify any dots on the body in which you mentioned ich

I plan to do it over 3-4 days.

I’m at .98 right now
If you do this and fish has a disease of sort, the disease will progress. You are placing fish at risk. Ramping up has no advantage but rather disadvantage. Ive mentioned this 3x and its now in your hands- Get to 2.25 within 24 hours, 96 hours

Edit: I think you have this sorted out now.

That’s too slow. You can get to a full dose in 12 hours as long as your test is accurate. You just don’t want to overshoot the dose.

Dealers put fish into full copper immediately upon arrival all the time with no issues.

I have copper power up to 2.3…. He seems to be kind of lethargic now and is laying on his side sometimes.

I think these videos are finally way better if you don’t mind taking a look. It’s 99% on his right side as you can see in the second video when he finally moves his tail. I’m brand new and want to make sure I’m treating for the right thing.

Is it possible it’s brooklynella or something besides ich or velvet?

Thank you again!

This looks like lymphocystis rather than ich. One dot does not signify ich which will increase in number daily. Lympho is a condition and not disease. Often its associated with water quality issue as simple as elevated ammonia or nitrate and can be that of water from LFS and not yours. Assure to provide Good water quality monitored by a reliable test kit and feed nutritious food with fats such as LRS nano frenzy and mysis shrimp.

Now I’m in a bit of a predicament though…. Copper is at therapeutic levels and if it’s lymphocytis it sounds like having copper might be a really bad thing since water quality is important.

Thoughts?

Copper is fine with lympho which again is viral. Keep an eye on ammonia level with reliable ammonia test kit
