Hello reefers,

I have a Bubble Magus Curve Elite 5 skimmer that I would like to install a float switch for apex.

The cup lid already has holes in it but they are not big enough for a float switch to go through. The hole is around 5mm.

Most float switch that I found need an opening at least 8mm.

So my question is, is it ok for this lid to be drilled to widen the hole?

I acquired a skimmer recently via a trade, and he drilled the lid to add a float valve, so I now it can be done. But with acrylic it can be tricky.

Found a video online and he suggest using dish soap as a lubricant on your drill bit.

I drilled mine without and issue, I used a step bit, you may have to drill from both sides with some of these because of the thickness of the lid.
