Hi,
I have a bubble anemone, living with a clownfish, Halloween hermit crab. I have had the bubble anemone about three months. The clownfish loves him, but the last three days the anemone keeps looking weirder. I did have a small algae bloom but it is under control (no chemicals) have a Red Collar Snail, Turbo Snail. Today the hermit crab is sitting next to the anemone which isn't normal.

I am using 10K light for 12 hours per day

I feed him twice a week, scallop, salmon, or shrimp. I cut the piece small

He has been like this for four days now. His polyps are getting smaller and smaller. I have seen him turn inside out but not like this. No mouth is showing I have included photos.
Salinity 1.25
Temperature 78
Ammonia 0
Nitrates 5ppm
Nitrites 0ppm
Aklanity 8
Calcium 300
Phosphates undetectable

I've had anemones do that before and was never able to save them. I've even had it happen while several other anemones were fine in the tank so I dont necessarily think its water quality related.

It looks like it is small enough that it won't wipe out your entire tank. It may cause a spike, but probably not enough to cause other livestock to die.

Sorry it's not doing well, good luck.

My round two on anemones was weird too. It died, but mine was spitting out guts, unlike yours as far as I can see. How old is your tank? Parameters? How much live rock? Tank size? I would try the anemone forum section or something; it'll help you more than I can at the moment. Good luck!

Under the rock, not a good location it receded to. Place in the area of moderate water flow and moderate lighting ( not bright white but heavy on blue) and confirm your salinity and they will behave poorly in Low or very high salinity. Perhaps a water sample to a trusted LFS would be of benefit to compare your reading for accuracy.

Also your calcium seems low. Mine retracting is early warning that something is amiss in water quality. Also how old is tank?

Calcium generally does not have an impact on anemone . Ca and Kh levels however will as does salinity

Hi new to the forums didn’t have this set to notify me of responses great question, I had a flu all 11k light, I upgraded to a hydra26 and the anemone is starting to look better. I have it set for 12 hours a day at 12,500k with the goal to move it up to 16k. The par value of light outside of water going to rent a par meter underwater one soon is 320. If you 5ink that is to long or any suggestions appreciate you.

Seven months I was thinking of rising calcium will need to read up on it.

The nem doesn’t look good from that picture and answer the important questions will help a lot. Calcium isn’t important right now

I think it is a lighting issue on my part. I was using a Fluval 11K and running 12 hours a day, the par value was about 180. They need 300-400 to do well. I have moved up to a hydra26k but am struggling with what spectrum to make it.

Parameters were posted at the top...the hydra will definately help. He is eating himself so small frequent meals will.help him. Anf i would try to get detectable amounts of phosphates. Heres what i run my 26 on over my nem tank..

Thank you I will check for phosphates how would I increase them? I have tried to feed the anemone but the dang clownfish takes it. With no tenacles it is tough so i started feeding several times a day hoping he is getting something.

Can you send me your preset for hydra so I can review them? I like to see them in the app and try them. Do you reccomend that I acclimate? Thank you

Russell
