Is my Duncan done for

you listed alk BUT . . . is it stable?

for example my alk over the past few days#

7.98
8.12
8.13
7.73
7.82

it gets dosed up to 8.1 when it drops down but you can see the swings atm its only getting tested once every 24h but when i add coral i will get the machine to test 4 times a day

my tank is 1 year old
I would say mine is not stable, I was not going to worry about a doser until I had more coral. Maybe that is a big reason why.

Are you doing regular water changes or dosing anything like all for reef, etc to keep up with alkalinity and trace consumption etc?
He has no consumption in that tank to warrant dosing, there’s no corals in there lol

So in theory you are running less then 1 watt per gallon.

I would crank up the lights first. Even running it at 100% wont be to much. without a par meter you running blind but if what your doing isn't working then change it up.

2 hours of 100% white wont do anything to hurt them corals.

My duncans see 350+ par for 6 hours a day peak under my metal halides.

parameters arent great but not something that would cause these to die.

nitrates is probably from algea, manual removal would be good at first. Phosphates are fine in my opinion.
My big tank runs at .7 phos.

i don't understand how it has been fine for the past year and then all of a sudden having issues.

added anything new to the tank?
I added a pitho and 2 trochus 3 months ago. The pitho lasted 2 months. The algae has been a battle for at least 4 months, so I did turn my lights down from 67%.

I took the 1 rock and soaked it in hydrogen peroxide to kill the worst of the alage. I didn’t think that would affect coral but I guess I should have mentioned that in my first post. I also missed writing that in my log.

I have been looking into dosing all for reef with a doser. I just thought my water changes were enough for what I have.

My GSP really hasn’t grown. So I guess I really am doing my coral a disservice.

Hydrogen peroxide kills not only bad algae, but the good stuff as well, damaging your ecosystem, and starving corals.

Zero nitrate is impossible. Undetectable maybe, but not zero. That’s either wrong or too low.
Should be in the 5-10ppm range, Duncan’s love that.

There’s something out of whack in your water chemistry if the Duncan died, I dropped them on the floor before and they still, look great.

Looks like someone had some lunch as well.

Almost impossible to kill that coral. Very super resilient, can fully retract itself to prevent damage.

Way way to much green stuff which may indicate fluxing chemistry and imbalance of nutrients. I’d review your phosphate level and stop the peroxide treatment.

Sorry, can’t see that coming back.

Personally I would look into adding some pods, maybe picking up neonitro to help raise nitrates a bit, and if you have someone local or a reef group, buy a piece of LR from a established healthy system. help ad diversity to the tank. the peroxide dip probably did more bad then good.

when i have pull rock to get rid of algae i just put in a 5g bucket of freshly mixed salt water and go to town with a tooth brush( if there is no corals)

Everything uses alkalinity..
