Its a 300W Eheim. Tank is 140 gallons total and the heater is in the sump. I decided to log how often the heater comes on and it turns 2 times an hour. Temp on Apex is set to 79 to 80F. Is this too often? Should I get a bigger heater? My back up heater was giving off a charge so I got rid of it and haven't gotten another one yet.

looks pretty normal to me, they go on/off a ton, which is why that mechanism fails so often... I keep my apex heater settings at 1 degree as well and have never had an issue.

I wouldn't worry about it.

I feel the number of times the heater comes on and off in an hour, buy itself, isn't useful information.

I would also want to know how long the heater is staying on each time and the temp on and temp off numbers.

And honestly, I am a bit surprised that APEX doesn't include your temperature readings in the log. I would expect that it would do so.
