I’ve had this single mushroom only for about 10 days. It was a $2 mushroom from the LFS...it’s my very first coral! The shroom came attached to a small rock, I set it towards the bottom on a bigger rock that was already in my tank. A hitchhiking gorilla crab lives in the bigger rock and I need to move the shroom so I can get to the bigger rock but it looks like the shroom is attached to both rocks now? Is it splitting? Melting? Stretching? Trying to run away?? I don’t want to damage the shroom but I need to get this gorilla crab out. Last pic shows the “melted” part the best.

I say its making a baby. Mushies are tough....if a piece stays behind when you move the big rock it will probably grow back.

How much has it changed? Doesnt look great but definitely not a total goner. I would double check your water quality. Have you had any recent changes to your system?

I think it’ll be fine. Not sure if it’s reproducing but it closing up like that is not a big deal. Mushrooms are one of the hardiest corals.

Tank has been running since October. Nitrates and phosphates are a little high. It’s always scrunched up in the morning and opens up when the lights come on. It was scrunched up for the first 3 days after I got it and then I noticed it moving to the other rock.

I agree with reeflover. Mushrooms are very resilient and now it looks like you will have two! Congrats:). We had mushrooms in our little 13.5g tank and I would pick them off as the spread and any little tissue I left would turn into another mushroom.
