Sometimes, air bubbles get trapped inside the body cavity.
That might be the case here. I've tried inverting them to let the bubbles out of the mouth, but that has some risk associated with it - the arms of these stars are very brittle (hence their name) and restraining them can cause them to throw off their arms as an anti-predator defense.
