Is there a difference between live rock?

I’ve been kicking back and forth to add some fresh live rock. I have an established reef that will be upgrading to a larger tank so I’ll need a little more rock anyways.

My question -
Aside from price, rock makeup, and weight is there a major difference in biome or life between the main two live rock locations available of the Florida Keys and Australia?

Part of me thinks the Australian should have a more diverse microbiome, “better” for coral per se but idk if that’s just feelings.

Maybe I think to much about silly things

I do recall that a local reefer went through a Florida Keyes mariculture facility which advertises their rock as aptasia free….

So far, that seems to be true!

You can get Florida keys rock shipped submerged to you. I don't think that's an option for Aussie rock. The difference in die-off between submerged in water vs wet newspaper is dramatic.

Definitely different critters and biome but if you have a established reef I personally don't know if Id add live rock. BUT if I was adding to a new tank id get some from both

I’ve no experience with Aussie rock but I did use TBS Florida rock for my latest tank. There’s no Aiptasia in the Gulf but there’s a relative: Bellactis lux, in the same family. I spent some effort removing them though TBS says they don’t spread.

used TBS Florida rock, its great and very diverse
