Is this a malu?

I found this sebae at a reef store noticed this one in particular has rings on the tentacles compared to the other ones. Is this a malu?

It is a H. malu. You may want to give it some fine sand, or at least not all coarse coral rubble. Dept of 2+ inches would be great.

Right now it seems like it's attached at the bottom of the live rock (I am too afraid to mess with its feet as it's settling in). The substrate I am currently on is the Caribbean Hawaiian sand, do you think that'll be too coarse? I can try to dig out that area and refill with a bag of fine quartz.

If you can move the rock and burry the area it attach to under a little sand. That would be what I would do.

Was checking on the malu today and I noticed it tried to attach to some of the Hawaiian sand that I have and not actually attached to the rock. But it also didn't actually attach to sand either, leaving a white film residuals on the rock and there seems to have filament at the bottom of the foot. Is this normal behavior? I seen filament on mushroom feet when they try to attach to new substrate, but not sure if that's a thing for anem as well. Or is the foot some how damaged? I was waving the water around near it and it floated up, so pretty sure I didn't tear it off the substrate

Thin white filaments exposed on an anemone's foot is sign of a tear/hole in the foot. This can often keep them from fully attaching, i.e. burying the foot in the sand or attaching to the rockscape. This can lead to its demise. A hole/tear is an easy way in for bacterial infection.
