Is this Clam dead?

Is it myth or truth should clams never hit the air?
Myth. They just need to be "burped" (rolled around under water) to help them release any air that might have gotten trapped.
 
Just update you guys, the clam is gone this morning, and whole frag tank smells decay. I did 50% water change twice already, so far all frags doing fine.
 
Yeah, once the mantle recedes down from the inside of the shell like that it’s a goner.
 
Once the 'meat' has detached or the mouth is agap then it is time to break out the tequila and have clam shots.
