So the clam I inherited a few weeks ago never really opened. But I just came home to this. I don't know ugh about them so anything would be great. Educate me please?

It's not looking good, but not dead. What was it's condition prior to you getting it and what are your tank parameters? Clams require higher lighting aswell, but light acclimation is important you don't want to stress it more. Appears to be a crocea.

It was stressed. I took all the coral in my buddy's tank. I'll attach a different pic the day I brought it home. My alk is at 10 and the calcium is at 440. Just did a water change last weekend. Nitrates are good.

I was told to take it out so I did. Should I put it back in. The foot releasing like that made me nervous.

If it's not dead already, it's just about there. A clam that is sunk in as yours is, will definitely not survive and there is nothing that can be done to save it. I would not put in back in my tank.

give him some good light and good flow. There's nothing wrong with good hospice care.
And it may surprise you. I hope. Really worst case its fish food. I still cant figure out how the tiny clam on one of my rocks is still alive. Its been grown over by live rock, been in three tanks and a sump. Yesterday It had both lips stretched out in the flow for the first time.

the lights just came on. and my mini clam just opened again and extended its lips. it reacts to light when i cover it so it has eyes. Should mean it photosynthetic. Should be dead living in/under that rock.
It appears that nature is smarter than me again.
