We did battle for about an hour. Finally got him out between some super glue, flushed him out of the rock with aptasia X and a little work of the laser and I coxed him up the front side. Let me know if this has been the culprit eating my acans? I think it’s a gorilla crab but he for sure don’t seem like an ally.

My 2 cents: I'd say a Gorilla. Fits the description: very hairy, with oversize claws. Doesn't look like any Mithrax I've ever had and I've had both olive and ruby. The back of the carapace doesn't look like a Mithrax either. JMHO.

Its def not a mithrax with the colored claw like that. Either way he was munching coral and for that hes toast.

A picture from Melevsreef that he had in his tank, Black Mithrax Crab. They come in many color variations and as with any crab, they are opportunistic eaters;)
