I wonder if the 60 watts will be too little, but I don’t know, I kept another tank which was cold water with only 15w but it grew macro algae great (all the corals were nps), I don’t really plan to stock it with any hard corals; instead I plan to just buy some Tampa bay premium live rock and just have a natural-like tank, so little coral, and probably not any hard corals. The tank size is relatively deep (17inches deep) and it is also ~17 gallons

I agree with @TX_REEF. That should be good enough, especially if you want to take a natural look at your reef.

Have fun and Enjoy!

Boardline.
No room for higher demand stuff.

Min 100watts, better 150watts.

You can always turn them down.

I must very respectfully disagree, there's no need for 100-150 watts on a 17 gallon tank unless you're keeping creatures that require extremely intense lighting, such as a maxima clam perhaps.

For example, my 50 gallon frag tank uses a Kessil AP9x, which is 185 watts max power, and I run it at just ~30% intensity. Everything in there, including SPS, is happy as can be.

I do have a question though for @TheClown - what are the dimensions of your tank? Is it more or less a cube?

Ok, I hear you.
Most people say they are doing softies only, but that thinking don’t last.
Trying to provide a lighting option which allows for light cravers, and if you don’t need, turn it down.

I started with softies, but over the years, matins of sticks.

And I never had to change my lighting system once, that, in the end, saves a ton of money.
