I'm going to use some Tropic Marin Pro salt, will do w/c todayAlk is too high. Bring it slowly to 7
This has been progressing over a few days. How can I bring no3 up in a coral qt? I keep ghost feeding and will add some algae pucks. Other ideas?Drop alk, im surprised your not burning the tips of your coral. Also STN vs RTN I consider Rtn to completely peel in 24 hours. STN is over a few days. Also do something to bring no3 up. Your starving these corals
You can get a bottle of NO3 and dose it.I'm going to use some Tropic Marin Pro salt, will do w/c today

Would you suggest something like ME Nitrate (saltwatersquarium) or Sodium Nitrate (amazon)? None of the local shops carry anything. You can get a bottle of NO3 and dose it.
Amazon sodium nitrate. 85 grams per liter of RO.Would you suggest something like ME Nitrate (saltwatersquarium) or Sodium Nitrate (amazon)? None of the local shops carry anything.
Cool, thanks. I have a 20g QT, how much of that should I be adding to that? (sorry, still newb)Amazon sodium nitrate. 85 grams per liter of RO.
And yes, IO as well as IORC both mix very high dkh. The TM stuff will mix closer to 8-8.5 which is better for a low nutrient tank and one that does not have much Ca and ALK consumption.

I'm mixing up some tropic marin pro tonight
Thanks again. I'll try and find some of those calcs / posts. 5ml is quite small so I'll want to be accurate and safe. The awc will start tonight with some of the tropic so that'll slowly start to bring it down too. I'll chop that frag upI just did a quick calculator search on R2R and I see others are running a much more diluted solution than I do.
Start with a 5 ml dose and measure 1/2 an hour later.
As to the frags, whenever I get RTN I cut well into the live tissue, remount, and move to lower light location for a few days.
Ok, using this calculator (http://www.theplantedtank.co.uk/calculator.htm). It looks like adding 1ppm/day is a safe amount based on some forum reading. To add to 1ppm to a 20g tank it looks like 1g of NaNO3 added to 8ml of RODI water then dosed will do the trick. This is the Sodium Nitrate I was going to purchase: www.amazon.com/Duda-Energy-5sn-Fertilizer-Industrial/dp/B00KZOECLE/. Anything seem off? I read somewhere about multiplying by .84, but I think that was if the sodium nitrate wasn't lab grade (unlike in the amazon link)I just did a quick calculator search on R2R and I see others are running a much more diluted solution than I do.

Argh. I cannot find the thread where I got my solution instructions from. I used Loudwolf sodium nitrate and then a more generic sodium nitrate that was 99% as well. You should be fine; just keep testing.Ok, using this calculator (http://www.theplantedtank.co.uk/calculator.htm). It looks like adding 1ppm/day is a safe amount based on some forum reading. OK thanks. I did some reading I think this should work. I've also read I can use muriatic acid to drop dkh. Not sure if I should go that route but I made a calculator for that in excel (I just like math) and I have that stuff on hand. I used a post from randy that went over the calculations. Does anyone do that too? I read some do that for IO when mixing it.Argh. I cannot find the thread where I got my solution instructions from.
