Is this rude ?

I feel like the reef hobby can be somewhat elitist. Obsessions over 'collector' and 'high end' corals. Although the comment may not be rude, still has an elitist stigma attached to it, that 'cheap' coral is less desirable or something below this vendor. Not to name names, but when i think of elitist reefing i think of wwc and jason fox corals, just me though.

I'm in the camp that is saying that $10 is a cheap coral and the dude just said it like it is. If someone called the store and asked if I had anything corals for $3 I would probably say that I don't have anything that cheap either. I do have some BS frags for $5, but some people like what most of us call stupid softies.

Was this a vendor or someone off Facebook or what? I have buddies who sell frags out of their house, but most certainly wouldn't want to cut up a $25 frag or for that matter even spend their time waiting around for someone to come and buy a $10 frag. You know how many times I hear stories about waiting around for a hour just for the person to never show while they had important things that should have been getting done.

Well he definitely isn’t a nice guy... I asked him if he would do 2 polyp frags and he said those are a waste of time .

Then I think it is time to move on. Not trying to be rude myself, however, what are you trying to get out of this conversation? There are a lot of people selling corals. I am trying to understand the point of bringing this up. He did not cheat you out of money or give false promises. Also, this is done over text and there is no way to really tell if he was smiling or anything as he typed it. I am smiling right now and do not mean anything demeaning in what I am typing. Have a great day and I am sure that you will find another supplier

He’s probably just gotten tired of being asked to package up a single $10 frag. I wouldn’t even bother with taping up a box for that. Seems rude but some people just would rather put in effort for more than that.

Same goes for two polyp frags of a $1pp coral. It’s not like clipping a bush...

Consumer entitlement is the worst.

I would hardly call this consumer entitlement. Unless I'm reading your comment incorrectly. How is asking a vendor if they carry 10$ frags an example of consumer entitlement.

I think it's more a matter of feeling it's rude to be told $10 is cheap. Yet, it is cheap :)

I agree 10$ is cheap for coral. I worked at an LFS for 2 years in college so I get price points, regardless, I just dont like this vendor's delivery. Yes $10 is cheap, but saying you dont carry any 'cheap stuff' is condescending in my opinion. Especially when there is a picture of a $25 richordea in the top corner, because in the reefing world, $25 is still cheap...

I thought it was rude, and as @jgvergo said, simply take your business to someone who'll appreciate it.

It may boil down either of what we may not know had happened:

New & inexperienced Buyer knowledge (I've seen & heard many silly questions being asked ...);
Persistent lowballers (oh have I ever witness many & just a couple days ago on Aussie acans);
Texts without emojis can at most times be mistaken for being rude;
Stress out Seller (at that unfortunate moment ...) ;
A little Patience ... maybe

Just stating being neutral ;)

Why is everyone so darn sensitive and so easily offended these days? We all seem to agree that a $10 frag is cheap, yet if the seller actually says it’s “cheap”, to which we all agree, that is now rude and offensive somehow? Really!?! :rolleyes:
