Hello! I have an Aquatop 40-gallon AIO tank and I recently noticed a small chip on the bottom back left corner, in the sump section. Is this something that can be safely repaired, or does it mean the tank shouldn’t be used?

can you get a better second photo? it looks like it might just be on the very outside edge and not the seam

I think on that particular tank (basically a cube), and from what the chip looks like in the photos, you are probably good-- and in a worst case scenario it might in time give you a telltale slow leak, rather than a catastrophic sudden failure. (Of course, more photos are welcome, if you can provide them.)

I don't feel there is anything to worry about. Just monitor for signs of leaking (salt creep).

I also see signs of leakage on the stand in the corner where the chip is. While that may be coincidental, like from cleaning spill over, you don’t want to risk your fish and corals. Having said that, from your photos, I agree it looks like an outside, external chip so run it for a while without any live stock and see how it holds up. Basically, if you do a lengthy cycle you should be able to see whether you have any issue (at least in the present).

Update:

After ready over everyone’s comments. I did another check of the tank to see if I missed any more chips. There is a small crack on the front glass left corner. The crack is center in the glass. I would guess this would make the tank more of a risk.

Yeah I would probably replace it. You plan on upgrading the AIO size?

My max size of tank is 40g but I still can’t decide on what brand I want to go with. I really like IM 40L but the shipping cost is way too much. Also I am looking at IM 25L since shipping is much cheaper. At this point I’m so lost on what I want to do.

Dang I’m sorry but better now than after you get a bunch of fish and corals in there! Mariner M40 is nice, I almost got that but decided on the 70 instead.

Another update:

Found the same exact tank on Facebook marketplace. Tank and stand for only 250!

What light would everyone recommend for a tank that is 22x22x22. Right now I’m looking at the new AI edge light not sure if that would be a good choice for sps and lps corals.

An 21" AI blade Grow would work. (Adding the raised legs would cost about an extra $25.00)
