I posted this is my build thread but figured I’d post here as well for maybe more ideas. If that isn’t allowed I apologize.

So I came home from work today to this? Most sps gone and probably 80% or higher of zoas closed up. Even a couple of the fish are not out and about like usual (verified not dead, just hiding). Checked salinity, alk, phosphate and all seem to be in line. Just did my biweekly water change last night and all seemed to be happy. Any ideas as to what could cause this essentially overnight? Or anything I’m forgetting to spot check?

It's so hard to diagnose these as it could be soooo many things. Contaminated water from ro leaching heavy metals, high tds, contamination from hands or sanitizers. Even a cockroach bathed in raid going for a drink can do it. If every parameter you test for comes back as good I would look into possible contamination of your mixing station as a possible cause. Check all fittings and pumps for cracked housings/magnets or exposed wires

TDS was zero I do check that every time I run it. Made sure to use the elbow length gloves like normal and I don’t see any loose wiring. I wish these things could just have an easy cause and fix....

I think they only other thing you can do at this point is an icp test, perform water changes if you can 100% rule out your mixing station.

I took the skimmer out yesterday to troubleshoot it not working. My first thought was possibly a sudden nutrient increase but nitrate and phosphate tested within their normal ranges for my tank. I also thought maybe pH drop from no skimmer but then realized my skimmer was in the sump but not running for a few days prior so I wouldn’t imagine that would be a drastic difference, just did a reading with the Hanna ph probe and got 8.6ish.

anybody know how to get the body off of this skimmer model? Skimz sp187. I looked at the online manual and it did not say. I emailed bulkreefsupply but haven’t heard back yet. I tried twisting and pulling but I don’t want to break this intake tube. It’s been a rough few days...

Well after crossing my fingers and going yolo mode I got it off, cleaned it out and found some small snails lodged in the pump. Hopefully that gets the skimmer back online to resume it’s normal duties, I’m making water now to try another water change. Times like these I wish I had a fish room to store RODI so it wouldn’t have to be made on demand, that’s a slooooow drip
