I've been wondering what skimmers really do in an aquarium. At first, I thought it had something to do with removing proteins from water. Now, I think this is something that scientists are claiming to keep us ignorant of the truth.

Last night, I cooked up a few fillet mignon for the wife and I. Turned out wonderful. Mostly protein.

Yesterday afternoon, I cleaned my skimmer. What came out was nothing like those wonderful fillet's.

I'm thinking skimmers somehow pull the ugly out of an aquarium. It seems like aquariums that use skimmers look much prettier than aquariums without them. My guess is that scientists haven't figured out why some things are ugly and worry about the moral implications that ugly can be removed. So instead of honesty, we get the whole protein story when it comes to skimmers.

Why would you add raw ugly into a protein shake? I'm wondering if I should do something like incinerate the pure ugly that comes out of my skimmer. Might help make the world a more beautiful place. The fact we pour this raw ugly down the drain may explain why it is so nasty down in the sewer system.

You should see what 10 tangs, 3 angels, and 2 wrasse produce. Let's just say I empty the skimmer before leaving the house.
