Building Out My Juwel Lido 200 Reef System (Triton Method, Custom Plumbing, & T5 Hybrid Layout)
Hey everyone, I wanted to start a build thread documenting the progress of my Juwel Lido 200 reef setup. I’m taking my time piece-by-piece to make sure the plumbing, filtration, and aesthetics align perfectly before everything is fully up and running. Here is a breakdown of where the build stands and what I'm running:
The Tank & Stand Modifications
* Display: Juwel Lido 200 cube.
* Custom Overflow: I took the plunge and drilled the back wall of the display tank to install a Modular Marine 1600 GPH slim overflow box for a completely clean look inside the tank.
* Cabinet Area: I managed to squeeze a Triton Trigger 26 sump perfectly inside the stock Juwel Lido 200 stand. Space is tight, but it fits!
Filtration Strategy & Water Movement
* The Method: I am planning to run the full Triton Method filtration system, utilizing the dedicated refugium chamber built into the Trigger 26 sump.
* Bubble Magus 7.0 Elite power skimmer: Protein Skimmer: To handle heavy nutrient export, I am adding a Bubble Magus 7.0 Elite power skimmer to the filtration lineup.
* Sicce SDC 6.0 return pump: Return Pump: For water turnover, I'll be running a controllable Sicce SDC 6.0 return pump to easily fine-tune my flow rates.
* Sicce SDC Extreme power heads: In-Tank Flow: For internal circulation and handling the unique flow demands of the tank, I am introducing two Sicce SDC Extreme power heads.
Lighting Configuration
* Hamilton Fiji Sun 24" T5 HO fixture: Main Fixture: Hamilton Fiji Sun 24" T5 HO fixture.
* Hamilton 10k Super Daylight bulbs: Bulb Choice: To get the right balance of coral growth and deep coloration, I'm setting this up with alternating bulbs: three Hamilton 10k Super Daylight bulbs and three Hamilton Actinic Royal Blue 460nm bulbs.
* 2023 ReefBreeders Pico LED fixture: Supplemental Lighting: I also have a 2023 ReefBreeders Pico LED fixture on hand to highlight specific spots or for accent lighting.
Aquascaping Design & Vision
* The Structure: I’m aiming for a crescent or horseshoe-shaped rockscape layout.
* Zoning: To make the most of the cube dimensions, the scape will be low in the front and rise up in the middle. This will build distinct ecological zones, providing low-light areas at the base, open swimming space up front, and high-par territory near the top.
Livestock Intentions
* Inverts & Corals: The long-term vision is for this system to be completely anemone dominant. I'm looking forward to the movement and unique biological dynamic that comes with a heavy nem tank.
* Fish & Mobile Invertebrates: I am still deciding on the exact fish and invertebrate roster. I'll need to choose community members carefully to ensure compatibility with a moving forest of stinging tentacles!
Power, Management, & Room Aesthetics
* Power Management: Everything is running through a Pyle PDBC70 rack-mount power supply strip paired with app-based smart plugs acting as timers for the equipment cycles.
* The Surrounding Space: Because a display tank should look great in the room, the background wall is being painted in Sherwin-Williams Peppercorn black.
Right now, the heavy plumbing layout is coming together, and I'll keep posting updates as I leak test and get ready for the cycle. Let me know if you have any questions about fitting the Trigger sump or drilling the Lido!
