Ok so I googled dosing pump reef tank and several options came up. The first was of course the apex pumps and I am not getting an apex and then came the Bubble Magus at $246.49 which is out of my budget but then I found Jebao Multi-Channel Aquarium Auto Dosing Pump at $59.15 which is in my budget. What is the difference? Why would someone pay almost 200 more for the same thing? Makes no sense. Am I missing something? Also has anyone ever used the Jabao pump? What do you think?

I use 4 of the jeabos and I like them a lot. If one breaks you can easily replace it two more times before getting to the price of a bubble magus...

Consistency in dosing rate. And customer Service.

Do a search on Jebao dosing pumps so that you can see what some users have dealt with using them.

Right!?!?! Why would you pay that much when you don't have to? I understand getting the apex ones if you have an apex but come on!

When you drive down the freeway you see different cars at different price points.
Some people drive 5k Honda other people drive 80k BMW in the end they will get where they are going.
I have a dos for 2part.
I have a jebao for Red Sea color
They both work. If your budget is for the jebao get that and you will be happy.

I’ve had a jaboe for 4 years. Also have had dos. Dos broke in 2 years. Between parts and shipping for a high end pump repair you could just buy another jaboe lol

I run a 4 head master jebao and the 3 head slave attachment. spent less than $100 for both and have never had one single issue knock on wood. and they usually come with a extra dosing head also.

That's like asking why a Chinese 'BYD' brand car is different from a Ford (Bubble Magus) or a Mercedes (GHL). They are not all the same, although they perform the same job.

if you are going with Jebao, MAKE SURE your dosing containers are BELOW the exit point of you dosing lines. these low quality pumps dont always make a perfect seal within the tubes and it will siphon out. i found this out the hard way after an entire bottle of calcium was dumped in.

put the dosing container below and add a good check valve.

Yeah you get what you pay for. I guess I get it but that is such a difference in price it kind of shocked me. And there are more negative reviews on the Jabao than on the Bubble Maggus but I think there are enough good reviews to make me choose that one.

I ALWAYS HATE GOING BY REVIEWS SOMETIMES INSTEAD OF LOOKING HERE. HOW MANY TIMES DO YOU GO OUT AND EAT AND AHVE GOOD SERVICE AND ELAVE A REVIEW, NEXT TO NONE, NOW IF YOU GO EAT AND HAVE A CRAPPY EXPERIENCE YOUR MORE LIKELY TO LET PEOPLE KNOW. THATS WHY I LIKE THIS SITE. EVERYONE POSTS THERE EXPERIENCE GOOD RO BAD.

I work in a restaurant so I know exactly what you mean. That's why I posted here and read through the reviews online. Actually, most of the reviews I read for both products were from this site.

It really comes down to quality (mechanical and electronic), costumer service, accuracy and consistency.

For new hobbyists their spending approach usually revolves around keeping the price down until they know this is a hobby worthy of their money and time. It makes complete sense to question price for a component that essentially does the same exact thing. Most level headed hobbyist would agree. 10 years ago the heart of my dosing needs was met with Bubble Magus and that's because the market wasn't flooded with dosing pumps options.

With experience comes wisdom. When a piece of equipment fails while out of town, we are careful and/or fearful about having it happen again. These days we have choices, for some people they will continue to spend $60 for a dosing unit while others want some piece of mind backed by a quality product and willing to protect their investment by spending 10x that amount. And there's nothing wrong with either approach.
