Hi everyone! First time documenting a reef build and only our 2nd tank on the Reef side of the hobby.
We started with a Fluval AIO M60 24 gallon tank.
It is 3 years old and has been a good tank for starting off.
Now after saving up it is time to go with our dream tank. In comes the JBJ 65 AIO.
We move. A lot. And I am not the biggest fan of most fish tank stands. Also the tank weighs 150#. The water weighs 700#. Sand and live rock another 100#.
What could be better than a tool chest?!?! At first my wife looked at me like I was crazy. But it’s blacked out. It’s on wheels. It holds 1200#s. It has plenty of drawers to hold plenty of goodies. And it locks. (We have 4 kids). Home Depot was running a sale. But Harbor Freight also was in the running.
For lighting we landed on two AI Prime 16 HDs. Price was right. Coverage is right. And the idea of going with a bigger single light and having any technical difficulties freaked me out. This way if one dies I only need to replace one. .
Looking for some water movement we came across the Icecap Gyre. Based on price difference decided to do an Icecap 4k.
After having sand in the white realm in the current tank this time we decided on Carib Sea Hawaiian Black.
Ordered 80# of Life Rock.
And got her wet.
Grabbed an Inkbird Thermostat controller with WiFi temp alarms and paired it with a Jaeger.
She cycled while we were on vacation. And now it is almost time to start transferring over from the old tank to the new. eak down the old tank. Then the new tank will roll fully loaded 10 feet to her new home.
Thanks for reading! Will update as we make the move and get more established.
