*90 gallon mixed reef*

Ruby Trigger 36 sump
Reef Octopus 150 skimmer
2- EcoTech Radion XR15 pro
Kessil H80 Refugium Light
EcoTech Vectra return pump
Icecap gyre
Lifeguard media reactor

This tank has been up and running for almost 4 years now. Its gone through some periods of neglect as other interests and life took over. All of the base rock got totally taken over by mushrooms and started smothering and stinging other corals. I decided to do a total rip cleaning and thought it would be a good time to start a build thread and get serious about this tank.

Before and after rip clean. It went smoothly and everything survived!

Placed sand in buckets and rinsed out with the waterhose until clear. Final rinse in RO water before being placed in tank. I used paper towels soaked on vinegar and placed on tank walls to remove coralline algae from glass.

Once the sand was back in the tank I started filling with new saltwater I made the couple days before in two brute trashcans. I swished live rocks in bucket of old tank water before placing back in the tank to begin aquascaping.

Once the rock was in, I topped off the rest of the water and got the sump running. Final check on temp and salinity and the fish went in along with the corals. I placed most of the coral on the sandbed as I was out of time for the day.

Upon waking up this morning the tank is absolutely crystal. Everything survived and seemingly doing fantastic at this point. Lights are dialed back 50% and will acclimate back to regular schedule over the next week. I may still move around a few pieces of the aquascape as I attach corals but I will keep updating any changes.

It always amazes me when people do rip cleans. I'm thinking of doing it with some of my very established live rock as it's infested with vermetid snails and undesirable corals that I got when I first started the hobby.

Following along.

It's definitely a job but I'm confident it got rid of my mushroom infestation. Time will tell. I'm much happier with the appearance, so it was well worth the effort. There is a massive sandbed rinse thread that's a great read if you're interested!

I'm not doubting the efficacy. It just gives me anxiety to think about taking my reef apart, removing the fish, scraping off the rocks, cutting off undesirable corals. Basically taking a hammer and chisel and just going to town. A several day process where you hope everything makes it okay. I was going to start another tank with dry rock, but I have rock that's nearly 4 years old and teeming with life. Problem is, some of that life is extremely undesirable. I hate being plagued with as much vermetids as I have, so I'm going to town and removing everything. I also have aefw, so I'm going to cut every acro off of the rock and put it in a separate tank for dipping/qt. There's ich in the tank, so it'll run fallow for a few months before I reintroduce the fish.

So, it's been a month and everything is still doing great! Some of the corals are doing even better than they were before. Zoas opened and looking good. They were shrinking away from the mushrooms that were taking them over. Anemones are now bubbled up which is super cool! They were long and flowing before. I've added a new small foxface recently that's eating like a pig and a few new acans that are nice and puffy. Still have a few diatoms on the sandbed but I recently have been ramping the lights up a few more % to see if it helps with growth. I felt like I was always on the low side with my radion settings. Beefed up the cleanup crew with an order from Reef Cleaners plus added a conch, so we'll see how it goes.

Thanks, Brandon429! Tank is still doing well! My macroalge is growing like crazy now after the reset. I was having issues before. Throwing out big green handfuls now. I appriciate you taking the time to make the write up. Hopefully it helps someone like the other write ups helped me.

I saw you were on the forum this last year :)

u still around?

your thread here has taught about 1100 folks what resolve can do, what the opposite of hesitation does in reefing. I only have your sole example since we last spoke...all the aiptasia owners since then have been commanded by their anemones

even though yours wasn't aiptasia we're trying to show passive masses that all anemones work this way.

hows your tank man

again I want to state

anyone with an aiptasia invasion issue chose oppositely from this thread.

what he did here is the secret to aiptasia control in reefing even though he used it on discosoma/rhodactis
