About to get this new tank going. Here are the specs. I'm a think outside the box kind of guy. I didn't like the stock stand that came with the tank, not enough room for all my electronics. I didn't have the time or space to build the stand so I went with a bathroom cabinet from Lowe's. I was going to get a slab of granite custom made for the top, but it was going to be around $400. Thought about a cutting board type of top but it was going to take a few weeks to get it. So then it dawned on me... Tile! I had to make a couple trips up to DC to get the right tiles I wanted to use but I think it came out really good. The stand meets all of my requirements. Plenty of room for everything, and I have a nice 6" shelf all around the tank.

Here is what is going on the tank: Tunze 9002 with intank cup. Tunze Water level controller(ATO), 2x Vortech MP-10w-es, full Apex with AFS, AWM and WXM. Not sure what light I am going to go with, I have a Vega already but I really like the Ecotech Radion XR15. Planning on getting water in it this weekend and trying to get the Apex figured out. I am going out of town in december so I will wait until I get back after Christmas to add any livestock(except maybe a few Zoas and Palys, who knows). Plan is to make it an SPS/Clam and Z/P tank. But... I am a sucker for a nice healthy Elegance so if I find one of those, it will probably make the cut as well. For fish, the plan right now is a pair of clowns from my buddy Mitch at Booyahs reef, a pair of Borbonious Anthias, either a Potters or a rusty angel and a helfrichs firefish. Possibly a wrasse of some sorts. Using dry rock and sand from BRS, I am going to try my best to keep pests out of this tank. Fingers crossed! Wish me luck!

I got the tank up and running this past weekend. I still need to figure out this Apex, going to be a bit of a learning curve I suppose. I am going out of town for 2 weeks for Christmas so I am planning on letting it cycle until I get back home. Still plenty of tidying up to do with wiring and such, but it's progress! Also, waiting until Black Friday to pick up a Radion XR15 for it. Then I can sell my AWM module for the Apex since I won't need it. Plenty more progress to come. Thanks for looking! :)

Awesome job on the tile work. That's one of the few things I wish I had done on my stand Rev. 2. Oh well, maybe in Rev. 3

Thank you, I like to have a shelf around the tank. It makes it nice when doing pretty much any kind of work. Going with a slightly oversized stand gives you a little extra room as well. :)

Here's an update. Black Friday sale I picked up a Radion XR15 Pro, Reeflink, the IM skimmer and media basket. I haven't installed the skimmer or media basket yet. But the lights are installed and the Reeflink is a lot mor user friendly than the Apex. Here is a pic with the lights.

That is an awesome idea for a stand! I wished I had thought of that before I bought a factory made one. I will be interested to see how this tank turns out!

Thank you. I'm usually not a fan of the stock stands. Not end enough enough room inside them. I wanted to get a granite slab for the top but it was going to cost around $400. Doing the tile only cost me around $60. I think I got a much nicer stand for about the same price as the standard IM stand. I'm leaving for Christmas vacation next week for almost 2 weeks, when I get home the cycle will be complete and I'll be ready to start stocking. The Radion is really nice, I'm glad I got it over using the Vega that I have. I have my old IM Nuvo 16 that I might end up setting up as a drag tank in the future. I'll keep the Vega for that.

Stay tuned!

Almost time to start he stocking! I'm visiting family in Atlanta for Christmas. I think I'm going to have to check out a couple stores before I go home.

I picked up a few things in Atlanta when I was there. I got a couple small colonies of Palys, some Clove polyps and these 2 beauties. I got a smoking deal on this pair of Black Ice clowns. They are great, already eating out of my hands.

Nice startup.......looks like you might have an apitasia growing on your rock.....you will want to get rid of it before it spreads. Apitasia X works well.

Nice tank! This is what I would like to upgrade my NC28G in the future to! I already have a fusion 10g and love it!
