I've been wanted to culture two types of phyto side-by-side so I only need 1 light. I've read a lot of people say to Iso is easily contaminated.

After reading some DIY phytoculture set ups, I noticed that people are creating a more closed offcukture environment using John Guest Quick Connect bulkheads in the lids of their vessels with 0.22um filters. I picked some up some of these John Guest fittings and noticed the metal parts. They are corrosion resistant, but this is salt water. Are these safe to use in phyto culture? I don't want to be unintentionally dosing contaminated to my tank with phyto.

If the rusting is iron, then it would be dosing iron and not a contaminant.

Curious about the closed off environment. What isolates the air going into culture?

The air passes through a 0.22um filter, similar to how a plant tissue culture bioreactor would work.

I've been culturing my own for a while now. Unless you are going to be starting a business keep it simple. I just use some jars and air tubing. I clean the jars and bottles with 90% alcohol and air dry. I use salt made in my mixing bucket. Knock on wood only my first culture failed the rest is easy as pie. I don't touch them during the 5 days.
