I don't know if she is doing it on purpose, I just don't want her to get hurt. And it seems like continuing to put her back every few hours is just going to stress her out.

Maybe put something on the sand, then the clam on top.
See what it does.
You don’t want it to stick to the bottom.

Ohhhhh. I am so glad you said this. I have had a crocea for 3 months, and saw this white line and thought I was "bleaching" it somehow. It worried me, despite the fact that it put its foot down and has seemed happy and very light responsive ever since. Thank you!

Jumping in on this conversation because I am having the same issue. I also have two new Maximas I recently purchased less than a week ago. My first attached to my rock work immediately, I sat him high up on a semi flat area and he stuck. My other has jumped 4 or 5 times down to the sand bed. I'm trying to keep them as high as possible so I don't have to crank my lights up to high due to a few hammers, Zoas and a mushroom. I feel like no matter where I put it, it moves after a few hours. Do I continue to try new areas or purchase a flat rock and put him down on the sand? I don't have crazy lighting, two AI Prime 16HD's on a 36 gallon.

Get a clam cradle or make one. A flat rock is like putting a baby on the kitchen counter. It will eventually roll off.

I put a thick rim of epoxy around mine that I plan to take off in a few weeks onelce it has put down its bysal threads.

Depends. Normally not long. I had him in a spot where he could open an shut but I don't think he would of been able to get out. This morning he wasn't coming out all of the way. My wife had scared it in this Pic. That last Pic is where my wife just placed him. Ignore the sand om the rock.

I may be wrong, but I believe clams can tell how much light they are getting and they may not open fully if they are not used to the amount of light. Maybe it is just adjusting it self to the conditions of the new position?

Do you think it's worth purchasing a par reader? I have called my LFS and they don't have any to rent.

Yes. Very useful. You can rent one from BRS. You can keep it and buy it if you like it or return it.

Yes. Very useful. You can rent one from BRS. You can keep it and buy it if you like it or return it.

There is an app you can get that reads par for your phone if you have an iPhone. $7 light reader app, +20 bucks for an underwater camera pouch. App is called Photone. Our LFS does not rent par meters, and I didn't want to get it from BRS because you have to pay for the whole thing upfront. From the reviews of the app, it is supposed to be accurate.

I actually got that exact one. Lol
I like it, I took it to my LFS to test against their fancy $600 one and the readings were ± 10 which for me is totally acceptable.
