A few updated photos of creatures and corals and equipment update. 11 months since water went into the tank. There's been some growth, most coming toward the last couple of months as I'm finally getting the parameters more stable. There's so much to learn and understand in this hobby. Some cannot be understood until you experience it, at least for me. But it's slowly coming together and the great news is, I'm still enjoying it ;Happy
Equipment I've added/changed:
I've added a CO2 scrubber to help raise the PH since I had no luck with the Chaeto. The CO2 absorbent is doing the trick holding the PH at 8.3 steadily for about 2 weeks before needing to change the media. (Still working on the exact amount of moisture to try to extend that out a bit.)
I also decided to go with the ZEOvit system and installed the ZEOvit Magnetic Reactor. Right now I'm only dosing the three beginning bottles, Zeobak, Zeofood and Zeostart. Once I add more corals I may look at doing some additional dosing for coral care.
I'm so excited about the weekend coming up as I've ordered a bunch of new toys for the tank.
I've been doing all testing and dosing by hand because I wanted to understand what it was I was looking for but now I've ordered an Apex and I couldn't be more excited and my husband (who's an IT guy) can't wait for it to come in either... LOL
Maxspect Gyre x2 with the icecap modules for controlling with the Apex. Another item I'm excited about. I've been using one Icecap gyre since the tank was set up and it's been fantastic but it just doesn't quite reach the far side well enough to keep that area from detritus build up and I can't get the alternating gyre affect with just one.
Skimz Monzter SM162 - a beast of a skimmer as I understand. I've been using the Reef Octopus Classic 150 NT and it's a great skimmer and very affordable.
And the item I'm most excited about is the new Maxspect Recurve 4ft LED light. Initially I went with the Current USA Marine pro LED lights and they most certainly will grow soft and some LPS corals. The two SPS corals I have have struggled both from the lighting and at times high nutrients. For an inexpensive light and a first time reefer with very little aquatic knowledge they work well.
No need to worry about all that extra equipment I'm going to have though. My very supportive husband has requested a clownfish harem tank. I hear once you're in you can never have just one. ;Shy
