Welcome Kate !

also in Ontario Canada .
Ottawa doesn’t appear to be a happy place anymore

plenty of knowledgable members to help , assist and advise as your journey continues .

looking. Forward to seeing your reef come together
Ha ha ha… honestly, being predominantly a Government based city, you will find someone always unhappy with something, or someone.
im really excited about my reef tank. I found a 47 gallon rimless and now have to figure out heater and lighting.

Hi Kate and Welcome! Glad you joined. I'm Lisa with 13 year old and we've got reef and cats.

Have you considered starting your build thread? I found its a great place to document my tank's evolution for myself. I wish I had started when in planning stages, like you might still be. Instead, I started tank first then joined, so I'm still finding myself going back collecting pictures & updating historically as well as current state. Once you create your first post in your thread and link it to your account, they will give you build badge (look left, under my ID)

This is a good reference book type online article I still review:

Heating and lighting a 47 gal is easy enough .
Have you put much thought into what lights you want ?

first make a list of what you want the tank to become .
if you want corals , fish only ,
if corals , which ones in terms of lighting requirements .
My preference is t5’s .
I can add anything and not worry about not having enough light .
That being said they also have their downfall .
heat and cost of running and replacing bulbs being the main issues .
