Hey guys and girls, I just purchased a sunburst of some sort. I believe it is a Colorado but either way I am not concerned with the names but rather it’s looks. I was wondering how to keep these so I don’t dump $$$$$$ down the drain. I’ve had a couple in the past but I’ve got a smaller 13.5 I’m running right now, pretty dirty water, and I temperature acclimated this guy and it’s been probably 20 minutes. I was wondering about tips and tricks to properly care for these as I paid a very hefty premium for this one in particular.

thank you for all help and assistance

(below are a couple pictures (no filter) with some possible zooxanthella coming from the tips of it. Not sure why the mouth is gaping and going up either. Foot seems to be kind of attaching but not very securely yet.)

As long as the tank is mature and as stable as you can possibly maintain it wont be too hard.
Also make sure you dont over do the lighting as well for new nems cause it makes it harder to get them settled in initially.

Okay sweet thanks, I’ve got coralline algae growing all over the place so it’s mature and stable I’d say but it stresses me out lol my guy I got it from had it at the top of his tank under some LED’s also and the guy before it as well. So I think almost to the bottom of my fluval evo should be okay. The light is ramping down now so that should help too. Do you suggest I set the light on a ramping tomorrow and the next day?

It seems like it was trying to split sort of just as the lights were turning off but 10 seconds before the light cut completely off it started to rapidly ball up.

Overnight the anemone balled up and moved around quite a bit. My eel ate one of my fish too but that’s besides the point haha ;Bored

Not sure why anemone was releasing messentrial filaments , can be stress related I’ve had it happen on my bleached BTA, usually fine the next day. What are your parameters? And there’s an eel in there?

Keep an eye on that mouth... If it doesn't fully close, look into cipro treatment.
Good luck man I’m rooting for you , would definitley as mibu said get some cipro on hand
Chewy carries cipro, but it is hard to locate now, as their site always take you to the prescrption ones.

Aqua-Cipro is the name you need to search.
Thanks for all of the feedback, I’ll try and check his mouth in the morning it’s really hard to see where he sat himself and the lighting right now. I don’t think it’s mouth is doing anything weird but I’ll check and get that aqua-cipro as soon as I can just in case.

also how do I know if it’s fully closed or not?

i pulled photos off of google.
Sick bta here. Also, if it spits out white strings, that is a bad thing. The bta is probably sick. Or, very unhappy.

closed mouth, healthy nem.

hope this helps.

my bta would constantly poop nightly. But looked good during the day hours.
This one is mine. You can see the mouth is pinched shut.

Edit: is your nem still sticky? Does it respond to touch?

I can see a lot of hair algae growing on your rockscape. A sign of too much nutrients going in your tank and not enough coming out. That to me is the number one reason your nem might be acting weird. What are your nitrates and phosphate levels at?

Gotcha, it’s hard to see it’s mouth but here’s some pics I just took with the light being on for about 2 hours, still ramping. I’ve had a couple nems with a gaping mouth like that and I didn’t know that’s what that was. I don’t think this guy is doing that but a second opinion always helps.

I’ve been told some people have higher nutrient tanks and still keep nems. The algae is because I had three HUGE Mexican turbo snails and they outcompeted each other and ate everything so they all died. Then the algae has slowly come back since then because there haven’t been much if any clean up crew.

I’ll test and see just in case though!

Update it has closed before the lights turn off again. It did this yesterday as well, closed a bit early before the lights shut off. The second picture looks like something is wrong with its foot/mouth.
