Keeping the sump clean

Hi, i recently got the plumbing working on my tank and started noticing tons of algae building up.. Well i looked in my sump today and saw it was totally gross, with lots of decaying pellets that had gone into the overflows when i was feeding the DT. My tests show no Nitrates or Phosphates but I assume they are just being used up by the algae and are not in the water column

I have nothing in the sump... If i add some live rock and some of my hermit crabs from the dt would that help things?

Do you have flow in your sump or do you have dead spots? You could also be feeding a bit too much andyoucould also look intogetting a filter sock for your drainpipe

Add a power head and maybe a filter sock. When feeding pellets you should use a feeding ring to keep them from floating away on the water surface or submerge them in the water when you feed.

+1 on adding a small powerhead. It will keep things in suspension for the protein skimmer to get rid of. Also you can vacuum it out when you do a water change.
